SUMMARY:

If you have an Alexa device in your home, there are a lot of pranks available to you.

HERE ARE 5 GREAT OPTIONS:

  1. Using the “Alexa” app, navigate to the “Communicate” tab and then select “Announce,” which can broadcast a message through your Alexa devices. This is a great way to broadcast a fake purchase order message, such as by typing the message:
    • “Hello NAME. We received your order for 500 boxes of Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies. Confirm your purchase by responding with the word “approve.”
    • Then, after a few seconds, send a follow-up message: “Thank you for confirming your order. Your total is three thousand, four hundred and 18 dollars and 19 cents. Your order is on its way.”
  2. Set a song to play throughout the day, such as: “Alexa, set an alarm for 7 a.m. playing the song ‘MMMBop’ by Hanson.” Then feel free to set a bunch more similar alarms for the day, so that nobody can figure out why the song just keeps playing over and over again. This is also a great prank to play pretty much any time you are in the vicinity of someone’s Alexa device.
  3. Set an unexpected reminder, such as: “Alexa, at 11 a.m. remind me that You have that meeting starting in 15 minutes that you absolutely cannot miss.” Or try something more specific: Alexa, at 11 a.m. today, remind me that it is SOMEBODY’s birthday.” Maybe a parent’s birthday, or a child’s? Maybe pretend it’s someone’s anniversary? What reminder would leave them confused?
  4. In the “Communicate” tab, the “Announce” and “Drop In” features allow you options to send messages to Amazon devices in your actual voice. Hide in or outside your home and start using Drop In to order people around: “Hey, can you all come to the bathroom, I need some toilet paper.” (But you’re not in the bathroom). Or “Hey, I’m outside in the shed, can you come help me real quick.” Slowly turn it into a game of hide-and-seek. It’s best if you are in a spot where you can hear your target moving but they can’t hear you speaking.
  5. A much slower voice: You can select different voices for Alexa, but what’s even more entertaining is changing the speed of the voice. Ask Alexa to make her voice particularly slow. You can also change this setting in the Alexa app. Toggle back and forth between fast and slow as the day goes on.

TIPS:

Before using any of the pranks, be sure to raise the volume on the device.
